If award winning 10-minute plays are your thing, then The Big Bite-Size Soirée is the ticket for you. In an hour you can expect five coming at you; we enjoyed plays on topics such as dating, kleptomania, war and sport and there are three separate courses to be had, so plenty to come back for on another night.

Get inside the characters’ heads – feel what they feel, see what they see, hear what they hear and sympathise with them. This menu also has a distinct American flavour which at times is funny, and other times a bit forced, but the performances are outstanding and direction flawless. The other plays are witty, thought provoking and at times intense; it is another delectable cocktail of short plays accompanied by delicious snack and hand-picked strawberries. It’s all part of the service.

Blowing in from great reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe, Bite-Size serve us up some tasty morsels of ten-minute goodness. I received the five plays that constituted Menu 2, but you could get Menu 1 or 3, depending on the night you go. We began our experience with a wryly speculative, and in-love, Merseysider ensuring we understood that awkwardness equals victory over the soul. We then moved onto neurotic anachronists, vengeful actors, a poor old sod, and the eternal peril that ‘gamers’ face.

The Big Bite-Size Soirée was a whirlwind journey through five very different scenarios … the evening was filled with laughs, new ideas and perceptions, and impressive hospitality – these shows are not to be missed. Judging by the audience’s reaction, The White Room Theatre will undoubtedly be back again with bigger bite-sized soirées, tea parties, lunches, brunches and breakfasts.
